Complains A Smoker's Heart" ( Poem ) 

- Saloni Chawla 

 (A Self composed poem on the ill effects of Smoking)

    "Complains A Smoker's Heart"

                                 Saloni Chawla 

I continued my beat 

while you enjoyed your puffs :

it was bad !

You played with the puffs

and they played with you :

it was sad ! 

For your life to continue,

I tolerated a few.

I worked harder day by day -

as the puffs

narrowed my many a pathway. 

Your health lowered its gear,

but you didn't the least care !

All my signals you ignored;

You just kept on getting lured. 

With your breath as heavy

as a winter fog, 

My beat as fast 

as a horse's gallop,

With a dilapidated horn

sounding much as your voice,

Your personality now,

was only Your Choice ! 

The doctor said, "Stop !

Start a morning jog."

But your ears were closed

like the shutters of a shop.

Those close to you

also bore the brunt,

for they were enveloped 

in passive smoke.  

The poisons you embraced 

gripped my neighbor and friend -

as you got diagnosed

with Cancer of the Lung. 

For once I ached

of an Oxygen lack -

not long before 

a massive Heart attack !

The cure came safe - true,

but gifted you -

a living corpse within you.

Trapped now you are

in your self -  built jail :

each breath imprisoned,

despair set out on bail. 

Nurtured you -

my friend and I for years,

And you - strangulated 

both of us my dear ! 

Do you realize - how 

a train hearty and hale,

because of vision blindfolded,

can set out to derail ? 

Wish this drowning ship 

could teach all those on shore ! 

For, only fools way to learn 

from blunders of their own.
